About the Nezahat Gokyigit Botanic Garden






Privately funded (ANG Foundation) Botanic Garden in a motorway intersection. Parcels of land connected by tunnels or foot bridges. Situated on the Asian side of Istanbul in a rapidly developing residential area.

NGBB is the central hub for Turkish floristic studies. Checklist of vascular plants [i] published 2012. New Illustrated Flora of Turkey [i] Volume 1 published 2014. Bryophytes, lichens, algea and fungi in preparation. Botanical illustration courses, horticultural training (certificate in practical horticulture).

Large Turkish geophyte collection. Children's garden. Schools programmes. A lake representing Bosphorus. Amphitheatre. 18cent. mansion garden. The Istanbul island is opened in 2010. Arboretum in 2011, Oak collection in 2014. Anatolian island is opened in 2015. Thrace island is under development.

Plant Collections: medicinal, aromatic, edible and dye plants, dry and halophytic, crevice and rock gardens, Turkish native and endemic species.
